This year, the WSLL begins its celebration of 70 years of little league in West Sacramento. In 1953, the dream began. Over the course of the next two years, plans were laid and fields were developed. In 1955, the first games were played at what was then James Marshall High School. Washington Little League started around the same time and would later merge with the West Sacramento Little League.
At one time, our Seniors team was just one game away from Nationals after playing 14 innings to win the Northern California Championship.
Over the years, the WSLL has produced hometown heroes such as the Sax brothers and Rob Dodd. Rob recently reconnected with his WSLL roots and has been giving pitching pointers to our players.
In the beginning, there were a couple of teams. Today, we enjoy playing games at the recently renovated Memorial Park, Alyce Norman fields, and Bridgeway Island Park, and have an average of 600 players in a season.
The West Sacramento Little League is grateful to the board members, coaches, players, families and supporters that started and built our little league over the years to what it is today! We hope you enjoy the photos.
